Another Radar Update

From his foster mom, in an email this afternoon:

"I wanted to let everyone know Radar is going in for his heartworm treatment tomorrow. He’s also going to have that wart removed from his nose. His favorite dog in the house, by far, is my foster Hershey. They have become quite buds! They love playing tug-of-war and considering Hershey is a lab/pit mix, she’s very gentle with him. He holds his own against her! He’s even learned to go for the hind legs! I’ve made several attempts to get pictures, but Radar always runs away. Having several other dogs in the house, has been extremely beneficial for him. He really just wants to be part of a pack.

Several of you asked me recently about meeting him. We found another foster, who I’m hoping will pick him up from the vet when he’s ready. I will touch base with her to see if she’d be willing to have some people meet him. He likely will not be up for company until a week or so. Who knows, he might even be in his forever home by then!

On behalf of K-9 Lifesavers, we cannot thank you enough for your dedication to his search effort."

Vet report and recovery pictures

Radar went to the vet. He had a fever so the vet kept him over night and started him on meds and fluids. He also was bathed and dipped because he's infested with ticks. He is a strong heartworm positive, which we knew, but tested negative for Lyme and other tick-born diseases (phew!).

Radar will begin his heartworm treatment once he no longer has a fever and we make arrangements with a vet. Radar will need some sponsorship for his treatment--check out the Donate tab on the left!

Other than that, he eats well, he’s playful, he seems to like the other dogs in his foster home. He appears to be house-trained and crate-trained, and doesn’t appear to have any anxiety. A little skiddish when approached, but if you crouch down, he’ll come to you.

Dimples - Recovered!

Dimples was recovered late last night in an enclosure trap constructed by Sam of Pure Gold Pet Trackers!

While that is great news and we'd love to savor it, right as the trap was closing down on Dimples, we got word of another lost dog - Kit. Stay tuned there!

Another lost dog

The Dimples search is heating up and we'd love to get some help. Dimples is lost in Annandale, but has been seen every day. Unlike our boy Radar, Dimples is staying in mostly the same area. Check out her blog. If you're able to help, please leave a comment on her blog.

Thanks!

Day one in safety--the update

From Radar's foster:

Radar spent the night at my house last night. After Danny and Drew got done deticking him, I brought him in and crated him for the evening. Not a peep!!! I think my foster, Hershey, may have kept him company last night, as she didn't come upstairs when we all went to bed.

This morning I got up, let him out of the crate and he ran for the door! Poor little guy HAD to go very badly. He was out the door and did ALL of his business within 5 minutes. He checked out the yard, did some marking, and when I spoke to him, he started wagging his tail, jumping around in circles, and ran up the steps. He went into the house and started sniffing the food bag. He ate really well this morning and I let him run around the house while I got ready for work. He's doing well with my larger dogs.

His spirits seem high and if I didn't know any better, he's actually happy to be around people, other dogs, and most of all, in a house!
