Another Radar Update

From his foster mom, in an email this afternoon:

"I wanted to let everyone know Radar is going in for his heartworm treatment tomorrow. He’s also going to have that wart removed from his nose. His favorite dog in the house, by far, is my foster Hershey. They have become quite buds! They love playing tug-of-war and considering Hershey is a lab/pit mix, she’s very gentle with him. He holds his own against her! He’s even learned to go for the hind legs! I’ve made several attempts to get pictures, but Radar always runs away. Having several other dogs in the house, has been extremely beneficial for him. He really just wants to be part of a pack.

Several of you asked me recently about meeting him. We found another foster, who I’m hoping will pick him up from the vet when he’s ready. I will touch base with her to see if she’d be willing to have some people meet him. He likely will not be up for company until a week or so. Who knows, he might even be in his forever home by then!

On behalf of K-9 Lifesavers, we cannot thank you enough for your dedication to his search effort."

Vet report and recovery pictures

Radar went to the vet. He had a fever so the vet kept him over night and started him on meds and fluids. He also was bathed and dipped because he's infested with ticks. He is a strong heartworm positive, which we knew, but tested negative for Lyme and other tick-born diseases (phew!).

Radar will begin his heartworm treatment once he no longer has a fever and we make arrangements with a vet. Radar will need some sponsorship for his treatment--check out the Donate tab on the left!

Other than that, he eats well, he’s playful, he seems to like the other dogs in his foster home. He appears to be house-trained and crate-trained, and doesn’t appear to have any anxiety. A little skiddish when approached, but if you crouch down, he’ll come to you.

Dimples - Recovered!

Dimples was recovered late last night in an enclosure trap constructed by Sam of Pure Gold Pet Trackers!

While that is great news and we'd love to savor it, right as the trap was closing down on Dimples, we got word of another lost dog - Kit. Stay tuned there!

Another lost dog

The Dimples search is heating up and we'd love to get some help. Dimples is lost in Annandale, but has been seen every day. Unlike our boy Radar, Dimples is staying in mostly the same area. Check out her blog. If you're able to help, please leave a comment on her blog.

Thanks!

Day one in safety--the update

From Radar's foster:

Radar spent the night at my house last night. After Danny and Drew got done deticking him, I brought him in and crated him for the evening. Not a peep!!! I think my foster, Hershey, may have kept him company last night, as she didn't come upstairs when we all went to bed.

This morning I got up, let him out of the crate and he ran for the door! Poor little guy HAD to go very badly. He was out the door and did ALL of his business within 5 minutes. He checked out the yard, did some marking, and when I spoke to him, he started wagging his tail, jumping around in circles, and ran up the steps. He went into the house and started sniffing the food bag. He ate really well this morning and I let him run around the house while I got ready for work. He's doing well with my larger dogs.

His spirits seem high and if I didn't know any better, he's actually happy to be around people, other dogs, and most of all, in a house!

RADAR IN THE TRAP

Thank you so much to the entire search team, our tracker Sam, and our Craig's List poster! Here are the pics of Radar, finally done wandering on his own and back safe!

Cross those fingers, do the special good-luck dance, and rub your rabbit foot

The trap is rigged and our monitoring schedule is set up. Send good thoughts and make a wish!

More Activity, Another Photo

As the Craigslist poster/Radar's caretaker/our hero reports, Radar is going all the way in the trap for food, and taking the food from the back of the trap. So our collective confidence is sky high now that when the trap is set later this afternoon or early evening, we will have Radar contained. We are all anxiously awaiting confirmation!

This is a photo shot overnight, May 30th-31st. You can see that he must still have his leash since the chain part of his collar is weighted down.

Photos from the camera . . . with an update

. . . at the new feeding station in Springfield . . .

Team Radar is pleased to present photos taken by the camera at the new feeding station in Springfield, from sometime overnight on May 29th - 30th. Sure looks like Radar!

The camera has now been lowered as it shot a little high last night. The plan is to give this dog, presumably Radar, a little more time to build his confidence in this food source, and not set the trap before tomorrow night.

Thanks to everyone that pulled together on short notice yesterday and made it possible to get these photos. Special thanks to Jim Poor for the use of the camera that's allowed us to ensure that this is truly Radar we are closing in on!

More as the weekend progresses, I'm sure!

Update from later Saturday - a photo taken of Radar in the feeding station for his morning snack!

He's a handsome devil, isn't he???

Promising lead?

We're optimistically pursuing a new lead. I saw a posting on Craig's list--the text is below. It sounded like the dog in the posting *might* be our boy, now in Springfield. We're setting up feeding stations and a camera to try and see if this is Radar. If you have time to flyer the new area, please leave a comment--we'd love your help! Special thanks to the poster on Craig's List!

Check out the posting:

Can I borrow a trap for a day? (Springfield)
There is a mini golden retriever(may be something else) small dog in the woods behind our townhouse complex. I've been feeding him, but can't get close to him/her. My neighbor has tried too. Can I borrow a trap for a 25 pound dog size? Thanks!

Thanks for the weekend efforts!

Thank you so much to everybody who came out over the weekend!! It was incredibly helpful and we now have a lot more folks on the lookout for Radar as a result. We now have two more sightings to go off of and have mostly eliminated some of last week's sightings as another dog.

We have more flyering activity needed (of course), so if anybody wants to head out just let us know and we can point you in the right direction.

Thanks again for all of your help with this!!

Sighting and Weekend Activities

Radar was spotted at 8:30 this morning wandering through a backyard at 5805 Oakland Park Drive, so he's back on the other side of the train tracks and Burke Center Parkway.

Another sighting at 12:15 PM today at 5800 Oakland Park Drive - Radar was trailed out onto Oak Leather with treats, but disappeared into the woods/trails.

We are launching a door to door campaign this weekend to get as many people in the neighborhood on the lookout for him as possible. Can you help? Let us know!

New Sighting!

Radar's back on the other side of the railroad tracks again - he was spotted tonight in between the houses at 5571and 5573 Anne Peake Dr., Fairfax, VA at around 8:15 PM.

Radar was walking on Shooter Hills Lane, took the left onto Anne Peake Dr. and our spotter saw him from across the street and started following him. He stopped between the two houses to pee, stopped to watch our spotter and then walked into the backyards and disappeared.

We've got a new feeding station up and running right there and hopefully we can keep him in the area. We are planning a big weekend of stakeouts and flyering, so if you can help let us know!!

Tracking and sighting update

Radar was seen FRIDAY, May 15 in the backyard at 5900 Steamboat Landing Court, NEAR RTES 7100 and 123 in BURKE, VA. A woman knocked on the door there to tell the people she thought she hit their dog, but obviously it wasn't theirs. We think he was there around 11:45 pm.

Our pet tracker confirmed on SATURDAY, MAY 16 that Radar is in that area. If he was hit, he wasn't hit hard because we should have found him laid up somewhere. However, after 3 hours of tracking we were still behind him. The track circled and recircled the area around where the sightings were.

Please let us know if you can help us flyer or search by leaving a comment!

SIGHTING: 05/14/09

We had a sighting last night, around 11:45 PM. The caller saw Radar and followed him for a bit, flyer in hand. Radar did not run away, but turned around and looked at the guy, and went the other way. The caller said Radar was limping a bit, so we really want to get this guy back to safety!

The sighting was at the intersection of Steamboat Landing Lane and Freds Oak Road. This area is not heavily flyered, so we could really use help getting more flyers up in this area, in addition to our other planned weekend flyering activities. Please get in touch by leaving a comment if you can help!

New Flyering Effort

Even though we are confident, based on the tracker and our feeding station activity, that Radar is still in the area, we can't seem to get consistent sightings. To help get the word out we are trying to have a big flyering push this weekend continuing to flyer the surround neighborhoods and focus especially on putting flyers on cars in surround grocery store and shopping center parking lots.

We need as much help as possible so if you can help flyer, even for a little while please let us know!!

More Tracking and Flyering

We had the tracker out again on Thursday and she's confident that Radar is still in the area and may have found himself a comfy little den near the railroad tracks. After learning that, we had several groups out flyering and re-flyering on Thursday and then again on Saturday. Hopefully the area is pretty well covered now and the next time Radar makes an appearance in one of the neighborhoods we'll get a sighting.

We're always looking for more help, so if you think you can help get in touch. And as always if you see Radar let us know ASAP!!

Tracking Radar

We're hoping to get Sam, the tracker, out again this weekend to run a track on Radar from our most recent sighting. This guy has been pretty elusive, so we're hoping that we can get an idea of where he's been hanging out.

If you're in the area and can help flyer, please get in touch with us by leaving a comment! If you'd like to help out in other ways, but can't get to Burke--there are tons of things we can use your help for from a distance.

Thanks!

SIGHTING: 04/22/09, off of Ox Road

Radar was seen last Wednesday, hanging out near a storage unit off of Ox R on Lindsay Street. We're so excited to have more sightings in this area, but still need more help with community outreach. Please let us know if you can help!

Saturday, April 25, 2009

SIGHTING: last week

Radar was seen sometime last week by the railroad tracks near Target. This is great news--but we still really need help in the are. Please, please get in touch with us by leaving a comment if you can help out locally.

Thanks!

We're still searching for Radar--have you seen him?

We haven't had any sightings of Radar in a few weeks, but we're still flyering the neighborhoods, reaching out to churches and schools, and trying to spread the word.

We really need local help--can you help us spread the word and flyer the area?

Thanks!

SIGHTING: 04/11/09, Ox and Adare

There was another sighting today right off of 123 (Ox Rd) on Adare Dr. and John Ayers Dr.... This was at approximately 2 PM. He was still dragging the blue leash.

We put up flyers throughout this neighborhood as well. Please keep an eye out in neighborhoods in this area as well.

Tracking results

We had Sam, with Pure Gold Pet Trackers out to run a track on Radar, to give us an idea of where he's been hanging out. What we learned is that he is covering a LOT of ground. We need to get as many flyers up as possible all along his route. Can you help?

Flyer Party - Late Start

Burke - Woodwalk and Martin's Landing

We got a report of a sighting tonight at 7pm that Radar crossed Burke Center Pkwy at Woodwalk and ran up Martin's Landing. He could be in the Landings or have crossed back over. We went to look around, to no avail. Some posters have been torn down, so we may need help going back through Burke and putting them back up.

Last seen

Radar was last seen in the woods behind the Burke Centre VRE and the neighborhood called the Oaks in Burke on Sunday 4/5/09 at around 3:15 PM. This also is behind the Kohl's shopping center in Burke. He is a very shy dog, and maybe afraid of new people. He will be more susceptible to come up to you if you have people food (junk food/etc.). He was last seen wearing a black choker collar and dragging a leash. He's such a sweet dog, but very shy. He can be anywhere around Burke Centre, Fairfax and could have gone further down the tracks. He looks kind of like a big corgi. Please let us know if you have any sightings!

Radar is lost

Radar ran out of his transporter's car in Burke VA on April 5, 2009. We need your help to find him!
